Teaching and learning methodology

Planned lessons, not improvised ones

Teachers work to a scheme of work for each subject and class, so that the syllabus is covered at a steady pace rather than compressed before examinations. Lesson planning is reviewed by the campus academic leadership.

Understanding before memorisation

Rote learning has its place — tables, vocabulary and Quranic recitation all require it. It is not, however, a substitute for understanding. Teachers are expected to check comprehension in class through questioning, worked examples and practical demonstration.

Language of instruction

Teaching is conducted in English and Urdu. Concepts are explained in whichever language secures understanding first, with subject terminology established in English so that students are prepared for the Board examination and for further study.

Homework and the daily diary

Homework is set to consolidate what was taught, not to occupy the evening. It is recorded in the student diary each day so that parents can see what was assigned and when it is due.

Support for students who fall behind

Phase tests identify students who have not secured a topic. Where a student is struggling, the class teacher informs the parents, and additional support is arranged rather than the matter being left until the terminal examination.

Class sizes and supervision

Class sizes are set against the capacity of each campus and reviewed every session. Every class has a class teacher who is the first point of contact for parents.
